The Maddening Family

My weekend in a nutshell:

1. The Ride Home
Daddy gets the urge to check on me every 5 minutes for a two-and-a-half-hour taxi ride: asking where I am, how much longer it will take me to reach home, how many people are in the taxi with me...

2. Arrival
Mummy calls (all the way from Canada, mind you). Her complaint: why don't I sign up for some phone plan and call her more often? She talks right through my explanation that I am studying, not working and therefore usually broke, and continues to berate me about being so distant...

3. Inspection
Auntie Flo comes over to me, squints her eyes, pinches my skin, pokes my ribs, then says: "But gyal, you a get mawga. Dem nah feed you ah town?"

I guess, one day, when I have children, I'll understand...

Families are the same everywhere. And when you have children, you'll do the same, hahaha. Or if your siblings have children before you, you'll give them too much advise on how to take care of their children haha.

lol tell your mom to read your blog...i remember once complaining to a friend whose parents were no more that he was so lucky he didn't have to deal with this kind of family interference you talk about. His answer i'll always remember. He said, "That's like telling a beggar he's so lucky he has no money because it saves him from having to carry a purse!"

ahhhh the love of family... the most irritating, intrusive kind of love there is... but we need... ohhhhhh how we need...

Jewel, man!! I tell you. I never go home without getting commentary on how I've gained/lost weight and some hearty meals-but I'm not complaining about those ;)

Will, it truly is irritating and intrusive, but indispensible as well.

Sigh...I know where you are coming from. And lets not mention the time that my grandmother felt me up. She reached up and squeezed my boobies, and told me that I was 'filling out.'
